Player Registration for Season 2

Registration will be every Saturday in May at the Wilkinsburg Borough Building (605 Ross Avenue – 1st Floor Lobby) from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm.  Parents/guardians need to bring COPIES of player’s most recent report card, birth certificate and proof of insurance to the registration desk and complete necessary paperwork.  Forms will be available in the Borough Building and throughout the Wilkinsburg community (including the schools, local businesses and churches).  The player draft date will be on June 2nd – coaches will meet and draft their teams for the start of the season.

Opening Day events will be on June 14th, 6:00 p.m. with the first set of games on Tuesday, June 15th at 5:45 p.m.  More specific details will be given at a later date once we have the total number of players.

 2^nd ANNUAL SUMMER BASKETBALL LEAGUE KICK-OFF PARTY

Wilkinsburg H.O.O.P.S is pleased to announce the 2nd season of Wilkinsburg H.O.O.P.S., a summer basketball league for boys and girls, that has been modeled after the Charlie Batch’s successful Project C.H.U.C.K. in Homestead with a kick-off party at Max’s Allegheny Tavern on Pittsburgh’s Northside starting a 5:00 pm. The mission of Wilkinsburg H.O.O.P.S. – Helping to Overcome Obstacles by Perseverance and Strength, is to teach our youth important skills such as perseverance, strength and teamwork in order to help them become leaders and champions in life and in our community. H.O.O.P.S. program is staffed completely by volunteers and coaches who have been recruited from the community and all have the same goal and commitment to Wilkinsburg.

The H.O.O.P.S. program was created to fill a gap when a few key Wilkinsburg residents became aware of the limited affordable activities available to the youth and reached out to Charlie Batch’s Best of the Batch Foundation and several local organizations that are invested in Wilkinsburg. This event is to help get the word out about Wilkinsburg HOOPS, to recruit volunteers and help get donations and possible sponsors for the upcoming season. Opening day will be on Monday, June 14^th at 6:00 p.m. at Hunter Park in Wilkinsburg.

Drills and Skills Instructional Camp

Wilkinsburg HOOPS is proud to announce our first Drills and Skills Instructional Camp for boys and girls between the ages of 7-13. This camp will teach the fundamentals of basketball including shooting, dribbling, offensive and defensive moves.

The camp will be starting on Monday, October 5, 2009 at 6:00 pm at the Wilkinsburg Boys and Girls Club on South Avenue. The camp will be on Mondays for five weeks until November 2nd.

The camp instructor is Levi Taylor with assistance from Jennifer Bruce Scott, former Pitt basketball star and the Wilkinsburg HOOPS. The camp facilitator is Coach Chrystal Harris.

The cost of the camp is $30 and includes a 3 month membership to the Wilkinsburg Boys and Girls Club and a surprise!

Season Information

The Wilkinsburg HOOPS Summer basketball season will begin on June 15th and run through July with the Championship games on July 26th.  We will have games 2-3 days per week starting at 6:00 pm (7-10 age), 7:00 pm (11-13 ages) and 8:00 pm (14-18) at Hunter Park with rain date games held at Wilkinsburg High School, boys gym.

Registration Information

Registration events will be held on Saturdays, May 16, 23 and 30, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Wilkinsburg Borough Building, 605 Ross Avenue. Children between the ages of 7-13 must either be residents of Wilkinsburg or be a member of a Wilkinsburg church.  Youth 14-18 must be residents of Allegheny County and in good academic standing in their school. Please bring copies of the following at the time of registration:

• child’s birth certificate
• latest report card or progress report 
• proof of medical insurance

Wilkinsburg HOOPS

This summer, Wilkinsburg is pleased to present HOOPS (Helping to Overcome Obstacles by Perserverance and Strength), a FREE summer basketball league that is modeled after the Project CHUCK league in Homestead which is sponsored by the Best of the Batch Foundation.  The mission of Wilkinsburg HOOPS is to teach our youth important skills in order to help them become leaders and champions in life and our community. Youth will be required to participate in a community service project in Wilkinsburg during the summer.
